La Bastarda by Trifonia Melibea Obono
The protagonist, Okomo, a teenager from the Fang ethnic group, trapped in a value system that does not allow her to develop her personality, is encouraged to undertake the search for her father, whose identity her elders hide from her. The trip will take her to tour her country, where she will find the aftermath of colonialism still in force. On her way, she will meet other characters who, like her, rebel against social conventions and with whom she will live experiences that will transform her forever. The work, which contains first-hand sociological and anthropological information, is a courageous and direct account of the conflict between the family structure and the ancestral beliefs of the Fang and the wishes of freedom of the new generations in sub-Saharan Africa.
